Mark Cooper

Profile

Mark Cooper resides in Calgary, Canada, where he manages his own consultancy, Sherwood Geoconsulting, and is an Honorary Professor of Geology at the University of Aberdeen, UK. He is an avid communicator and enjoys sharing his knowledge of the history and heritage of the Canadian Rockies. 

Mark’s career includes time in academia and industry and has involved projects in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe. For the last 15 years Mark has been teaching classroom and field courses, many in the Rocky Mountains, to enthusiastic reviews. He has been a Distinguished Lecturer for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. 

Mark is also involved in developing awareness of the impact of climate change in Canada. 

Mark has worked and published on the geology of the Rocky Mountain foothills of western Canada for more than 30 years and enjoys spending time in the mountains, whether doing fieldwork, hiking or skiing.
